A. Getting Started
-
The 10-minute complimentary call is a great opportunity for us to connect and determine if we're a good fit for your therapy needs. It’s your chance to share what you’re experiencing and for us to outline how we can assist. You’ll learn about our therapeutic approach, and we’ll discuss next steps such as scheduling, payment, and any necessary paperwork. Most importantly, it’s a space for you to ask questions and ensure you feel comfortable and confident about beginning therapy with us.
-
We offer individual, couples, and family therapy. While we are in-network with insurance for individual sessions, couples and family counseling are not covered and are provided on a private-pay basis.
Our work is grounded in creating a safe, focused space where clients can explore their experiences in depth. We tailor our approach to each individual, couple, or family, offering personalized and consistent support that fosters meaningful progress in both personal growth and relationship dynamics.
-
We exclusively offer virtual telehealth sessions and do not provide in-person therapy. This approach allows us to offer flexible, accessible care—whether you're at home, in a private space, or wherever feels safest and most available to you.
Research shows that virtual therapy can be just as effective as in-person sessions; what matters most is your comfort, preferences, and the quality of the therapeutic relationship.
B. Insurance & Fees
-
If you’re not using insurance, session fees vary based on the clinician’s level of experience and the type of therapeutic work provided. We offer a limited number of sliding scale slots to help make therapy more accessible for those with financial need. Please inquire directly for more information about fees.

We currently accept select insurance plans through Aetna, Blue Cross Blue Shield, New York State Medicaid, and UnitedHealthcare/Optum. Insurance participation varies by therapist and specific plan, so coverage will depend on the provider you choose. We are also actively working to expand our in-network insurance options.
Please contact us to confirm whether your specific insurance plan is currently accepted and to verify your benefits before scheduling.
For individual therapy provided out of network, we can provide a superbill that you may submit to your insurance company for possible reimbursement. Superbills are not available for couples or family therapy.
-
Yes. Select Aura of Hope therapists accept eligible Aetna plans for individual therapy in New York. -
Yes. Our team can help verify your insurance eligibility and benefits before you begin therapy. We can review information such as your deductible, copay or coinsurance when available. Insurance verification is not a guarantee of payment, and final coverage is determined by your insurance plan.
-
An out-of-network therapist is a provider who does not have a contract with your insurance plan. Some insurance plans include out-of-network benefits, which may reimburse you for a portion of the cost of individual therapy after you pay your therapist directly.
Your reimbursement will depend on your specific plan, including your out-of-network deductible, coinsurance, and the amount your insurance company considers eligible for reimbursement. Not all plans include out-of-network benefits, and reimbursement is not guaranteed.
-
A superbill is a detailed receipt for therapy services that you can submit to your insurance company when requesting possible out-of-network reimbursement.
We can provide superbills for individual therapy only. Superbills are not available for couples or family therapy. Providing a superbill does not guarantee that your insurance company will reimburse you.
-
Call the member services number on the back of your insurance card and ask about your out-of-network benefits for outpatient mental health therapy. You may find it helpful to ask:
Do I have out-of-network coverage for outpatient mental health or psychotherapy services, including telehealth?
What is my out-of-network deductible, how much have I met, and what is my coinsurance after the deductible is met?
Is reimbursement based on the therapist’s full fee or the insurance plan’s allowed amount?
If the therapist’s fee is higher than the allowed amount, would I be responsible for the difference?
Can I submit a superbill for reimbursement, and what is the process for submitting an out-of-network claim?
Is prior authorization required?
Are there any limits on the number or frequency of covered therapy sessions?
Because out-of-network benefits can vary significantly between plans, your insurance company is the best source for confirming your specific coverage and estimating your out-of-pocket cost.

D. Scheduling & Policies
-
The frequency of therapy sessions varies based on individual needs. Initially, we typically recommend weekly sessions to establish rapport and explore your experiences. As therapy progresses, we may adjust to twice-weekly sessions if necessary, but we do not schedule sessions less frequently than every other week. Monthly sessions may hinder the deep, healing work our practice focuses on. Consistency is essential, so we aim to maintain a regular weekly schedule, making adjustments only for unforeseen circumstances.
-
We kindly ask that you provide at least 48 hours’ notice if you need to cancel or reschedule your appointment. If we are unable to reschedule you for the same day, a cancellation fee may apply, as the reserved time may not be available to another client.
If you arrive 15 minutes or more late, the appointment may be considered a late cancellation and may be subject to the same fee, depending on your clinician’s schedule and availability.
We appreciate your understanding and cooperation. This policy helps us respect both our clients’ and clinicians’ time and continue providing thoughtful, high-quality care.
You don't have to navigate it alone.
We're here to help you move forward with hope.
